From 30 July to 13 August, the spectacular Nora Archaeological Site will host Women in Jazz, the 17th edition of the International Nora Jazz Festival.
To celebrate this milestone, the festival welcomes four outstanding international artists—Sophia Thakur, Morgan James, Georgia Cécile and Ayanna Witter-Johnson—alongside two special dance performances presented by some of Europe's most prestigious dance companies.
Organised by the Associazione Enti Locali in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Culture, the festival transforms the ancient city of Nora into a meeting place where voices, cultures and artistic expressions from around the world come together.
The programme opens on 30 July with Georgia Cécile, Scotland's acclaimed rising jazz and soul singer, whose elegant yet deeply expressive style draws inspiration from artists such as Nina Simone and Esperanza Spalding. On 1 August, American vocalist Morgan James, admired by legends including Prince and Berry Gordy, takes the stage with her powerful voice and distinctive reinterpretations of timeless classics.
On 6 August, British singer-songwriter, cellist and composer Ayanna Witter-Johnson blends reggae, soul and jazz into a unique musical language shaped by her Jamaican heritage. Two days later, award-winning poet and performer Sophia Thakur brings her captivating fusion of spoken word, jazz and rhythm to the festival.
A special highlight arrives on 7 August with La Notte delle Stelle (Night of the Stars), a visually stunning dance production inspired by two remarkable women of Italian culture, Grazia Deledda and Eleonora Duse, featuring principal dancers and soloists from Italy's leading ballet companies.
The festival concludes on 13 August with Echoes of Life, a choreographic creation inspired by the myth of Narcissus. Starring Hamburg Ballet principal dancers Silvia Azzoni and Olexandr Ryabko, accompanied live by Polish pianist Michal Białk, the performance explores identity, desire and transformation through an elegant dialogue between music and dance.
