    NATIONAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF CAGLIARI

Welcome to the page dedicated to the National Museums of Cagliari

The National Museums of Cagliari comprise the Archaeological Museum, the Art Gallery (Pinacoteca), the San Pancrazio Space, the former Royal Museum, the Porta Cristina exhibition spaces, the 16th-century Cannon Galleries, the Arch Theatre, the Tower of San Pancrazio and the Palazzo delle Seziate. Since 2019, they have operated as an autonomous institution of the Italian Ministry of Culture.

The Archaeological Museum houses one of Sardinia's most important archaeological collections, with more than 4,000 artefacts telling a story spanning almost 7,000 years, from Prehistory to the Middle Ages. Highlights include Neolithic Mother Goddess figurines, Nuragic bronzes, Phoenician and Punic jewellery, Roman sculptures, Byzantine liturgical objects and medieval ceramics.

The Art Gallery (Pinacoteca) displays an outstanding collection of paintings featuring Sardinian, Italian, Spanish and Flemish works from the 15th century to the present day, exhibited across three recently refurbished floors.

The collections also include liturgical artefacts, while exhibitions dedicated to ceramics, monumental fragments, weapons, textiles, furnishings and woven objects continue to expand.

On 2 August, the National Museums of Cagliari celebrate Sunday at the Museum.
