Five operas and a ballet (for seven subscription turns), all titles of great interest which, certainly, will meet the approval of the public, both for the famous and popular ones: Aida, The Elixir of Love, Nabucco, Carmen, La Jura, The Merry Widow.
- Aida staged from 29 May to 9 June.
- The second date with opera, presented from 3 to 12 July, is with The Elixir of Love, a playful opera by Gaetano Donizetti (Bergamo, 1797-1848). This is the resumed production of the Teatro Lirico of Cagliari, staged in October 2009, which is supported by the direction of Michele Mirabella, a famous and respected director, author, and theatre, radio, cinema and television actor.
- Two long-awaited non-subscription evenings dedicated to classical and contemporary dance will light up the Cagliari summer: on 15 July Sylvie Guillem, an international star, will perform in an elegant show, as part of a world tour, with which the great French ballerina will say goodbye to dance; on 18-19 July Roberto Bolle returns, to great demand, to the Teatro Lirico of Cagliari, with his Roberto Bolle and Friends for two “sold out” dance Galà.
- After the summer break, the Opera and Ballet season resumes, from 2 to 11 October, with a welcome return for the Cagliari public, after only three years since the last performance: Nabucco, Giuseppe Verdi’s beloved opera. From 23 to 29 October, for seven performances, it is the turn of the contemporary dance of Carmen: a new version of the novel of Mérimée, then set to music by Georges Bizet, adapted by choreographer Johan Inger and interpreted by the famous Spanish ballet company of the Compañía Nacional de Danza.
The Opera and Ballet season continues with a real rarity: La Jura, five scenes of life in Gallura with musical score, to a libretto and music of Gavino Gabriel (Tempio Pausania, 1881 - Rome, 1980) which is staged from 20 to 29 November.
Closing the Opera and Ballet Season, from 18 to 30 December, is the most popular operetta of music history: The Merry Widow by Franz Lehár (Komárom, Hungary, 1870 - Bad Ischl, Austria, 1948), absent since 1998 from Cagliari.
All shows are performed by the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Lirico of Cagliari.
