M’illumino di prosa
New appointments with great prose at the Teatro Massimo in Cagliari from October: the 2012-13 season provides an extensive playbill consisting of nine different and renowned theatre companies for a total of 52 plays.
The title of the programme is M'illumino di prosa (I illuminate myself with prose): not an irreverent reference to the renowned poem, but a tribute to art and culture inhabiting the stage in the multiple and iridescent facets of the wonderful game of fiction that becomes truer than the truth, a mirror of reality in an itinerary of stories, dreams and emotions.
The first appointment is scheduled for 23rd October 2012 and the last for 7th April 2013: the nine scheduled titles also include two national premieres - “Qui e Ora” (Here and Now) by Mattia Torre and “Look back in anger” by John Osborne – featuring virtuosos such as Franco Branciaroli and violinist Ara Malikian, stage professionals and new divas such as Ivana Monti, Stefania Rocca and Debora Caprioglio, actor and director Jurij Ferrini, Daniele Liotti, Giandomenico Cupaiuolo and Daniele Russo, the visionary figure of the Teatro del Carretto and the “physical” humour of Yllana, Claudio Santamaria and Filippo Nigro, fierce brothers in “The Lonesome West”, and Valerio Mastandrea’s comeback to the theatre.
From William Shakespeare to Martin McDonagh, for a “vertical panoramic overview” on English theatre ranging from the doubts and ghosts of “Hamlet” to the felonious thoughts of betrayal and murder (or assassination of tyrants) in “Julius Caesar”; from the photography of a crude and bitter reality in the more current than ever before “Look back in anger” by John Osborne, to the beautiful metaphor of stage art, featuring the parable of a great head comedian, in “The Dresser” by Ronald Harwood, and the merciless family portrait – in the heart of Ireland- in “The Lonesome West” by Martin McDonagh.
First appointment with the spectacular “PaGAGnini” – a passionate musical theatre performance inspired by the genius violinist– to inaugurate the season on Tuesday 23rd October 2012 among the acrobatic virtuosities of an histrionic Ara Malikian, together with Yllana’s artist to form an unusual and playful String Quartet, for a Dis/Concert designed on the more fun and entertaining side of classical (and not only) music.
