San Benedetto Market, a surge of colours and sounds
Built in the 1950’s, the market represents one of the most characteristic sights of Cagliari. It is the largest town market throughout the whole of Italy and considered one of the most beautiful in Europe due to its uniqueness.
Visitors not entering San Benedetto market cannot truthfully state that they have visited Cagliari: the true inhabitants of Cagliari can be seen and heard here; a multitude bearing shopping bags, the cries of the stall holders, colours, shapes and sounds: a thousand shapes and sounds able to charm every last one of its visitors. The market develops over an 8000 m2 area on two levels; one for the unfailingly crowded fish market and the other for stalls selling meat, fruit and vegetables.
