Poetto, magical beach open to all
Poetto is one of the loveliest town beaches throughout the Mediterranean, a mere five kilometres away from Cagliari. Easily reachable by car and public transport, this 7km expanse of sand is overlooked from the Sella del Diavolo cape. Legend narrates that on falling into the sea with his saddle, Lucifer left his print on the rock, hence the term Devil’s Saddle.
The beach is particularly dear to the people of Cagliari who use it all year round. In the winter months the beach is ideal for a lunchtime stop to savour the sea urchins, and in the summer is thronged with bathers during the day and at night with the hordes that frequent the characteristic beach-bars selling drinks and providing live music.
